Cadenza will be performing for the first time in 2010 in North Berwick this Saturday, 13 March. Cadenza will be taking part in the concert series Music for Malawi 2010 which will fund for 20 senior pupils from North Berwick High School to go to Malawi and support Mary’s Meals. Cadenza “Sings a New Song” at carol competition final

To celebrate its 21st birthday year, Waverley Care, Scotland’s leading HIV charity, recently launched Sing a New Song - a Christmas Carol Writing competition open to all composers, new or established. Initial shortlisting will be undertaken by a team of musicians, including Cadenza’s Musical Director, Jenny Sumerling, and Scottish Composter, Tom Cunningham.

The judging panel – composers Bob Chilcott and James MacMillan and Chief Executive of the RSNO, Simon Woods – will choose the final shortlist of six, to be performed by Cadenza at a concert in Edinburgh on Saturday 27th November 2010.

The winning composer will receive a cheque for £500 and their carol will be included on Cadenza’s forthcoming Christmas CD.

Cadenza triumphs in Glasgow and Edinburgh!

Cadenza finished 2009 on a high, with praise from both the Herald and Edinburgh Evening News critics for our performances in the Raymond Gubbay ‘Carols by Candlelight’ concerts (Glasgow Royal Concert Hall 22nd December and Usher Hall Edinburgh 23rd December) – “…musical highlights…”, “…an excellent performance from amateur choir Cadenza…”. Christmas Season Going Well

Cadenza are over halfway through their Christmas programme for 2009, but they are by no means feeling complacent about the remaining engagements.The Erskine service in St Cuthbert’s Parish Church proved popular with late night shoppers as well as some of the residents of the Erskine Home, and Cadenza once again enjoyed performing alongside the St George’s School Choir and listening to readings from Alistair Hutton and Erskine staff members. We’ll post back here the total raised during the evening in due course.

Cadenza’s own Christmas Concert in Polwarth Parish Church was also well attended, with around 250 in the audience enjoying a varied choral repertoire of modern and traditional carols and Christmas songs, as well as some less well known Christmas pieces (like Gershwin’s Summertime!) by our guests, the effervescent Regal Brass. A real Christmas cracker, and put our local audience in high spirits!

The choir travelled along the M9 to Stirling the following evening after an invite from Historic Scotland to take part in an evening of music and entertainment in the Great Hall in Stirling. You can see photographs from that evening on our photos page.

Cadenza wrap up their Christmas engagements for this year with two Carols by Candlelight concerts with Raymond Gubbay – one in The Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on the 22nd, one in The Usher Hall in Edinburgh on the 23rd. For more details, please see our concerts page.

Fringe Show Sells Out

It’s official – confirmed by our Treasurer! There was not a vacant seat to be found in Greyfriars for our 2009 Fringe Concert. A welcome, if slightly scary sight, greeted choir members arriving shortly before the doors opened to see a long queue snaking back to the entrance gates, and some of the audience reported arriving 20 minutes before the start of the concert to find only restricted view seats in the side pews.

And the moral of this tale – book now for our Christmas concert, and make sure you join the queue early next August!

Cadenza to Perform at Stirling Castle at Christmas

More Christmas Concerts Announced!

Cadenza today announces two additional concerts as part of our Christmas programme.We have been invited to take part in two Carols for Candlelight concerts by Raymond Gubbay, performing in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. The Glasgow concert takes place on Tuesday 22 December at 7.30pm, with the Edinburgh concert the following evening also at 7.30pm. For more details, please see our Concerts page.

Open Rehearsal
