Statement on Coronavirus

Like most organisations, Cadenza has been dealing with the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on it’s day to day activities. This has meant some difficult decisions being made. Unlike some organisations, however, Cadenza is well-placed to weather this current storm and we look forward to commencing our activities when the circumstances allow.

As a choir, we have not met to rehearse since the social distancing guidelines came into force three weeks ago. Early on, we knew that this would have an impact on our ability to perform at our upcoming concerts, and we took the decision to cancel our performance for the Soko Fund in April. We hope to be able to reschedule this concert in the future.

As the full scale of the pandemic began to be felt, it became clear that not only smaller local concerts would be affected, but global arts festivals too. It is with great regret, therefore, that we have cancelled our annual Fringe performance this year – not least because the Fringe itself will not be going ahead in it’s current form. Never fear, however, as we will be back for the Fringe 2021, bigger and better than ever!

While we are all disappointed that we will not be able to perform as we hoped this current choir year, we take our responsibility for the safety and well-being of our members (and our audience) extremely seriously. We are also keen to ensure that any performance we do put on is at the high-standard that you have come to expect from us. Even if the current restrictions were relaxed in the next month or so, there is no guarantee as to when things will fully return ‘to normal’ and so no way we could plan effectively the rehearsals that are required to perform at our absolute best.

It is for all those reasons – and more – that we have decided to suspend Cadenza’s operations until after the summer. Our Committee continue to meet regularly (using teleconferencing) to monitor the situation, and more news will be posted on our website and provided to our Mailing List when we have it.

As always, we thank you for all your support. For now, from all of us at Cadenza: stay safe, stay well & stay home!
