Edinburgh’s acclaimed chamber choir Cadenza returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a vibrant, jazz-inspired concert in a new and breathtaking venue — St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. A regular at the Fringe, this marks Cadenza’s debut performance at the Cathedral, promising a stunning acoustic and visual setting for an unforgettable evening of choral music.
This year’s programme is a joyful celebration of jazz and choral fusion, featuring three standout works:
Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass – a fresh and rhythmic take on the traditional Latin mass, combining choral elegance with swinging jazz flair.
George Shearing’s Songs and Sonnets – an irresistible collection of Shakespeare texts set to playful and romantic jazz harmonies, filled with charm and wit.
Iain Farrington’s Then Sing We All – an exhilarating and contemporary choral suite bursting with rhythmic vitality and gospel-jazz influences, composed by Farrington himself.
Cadenza is delighted to perform this programme with a live jazz trio of exceptional calibre:
- Iain Farrington, piano – renowned composer, arranger, and pianist whose own composition features in the programme
- Tom Gordon, drums – one of Scotland’s leading jazz drummers
- Ewan Hastie, bass – a rising star on the UK jazz scene
Led by musical director Timothy Coleman, Cadenza blends precision, passion, and rich vocal colour in performances that consistently impress Fringe audiences and critics alike.
Whether you’re a long-time jazz enthusiast or a curious Fringe-goer looking for something different, this unique crossover concert promises energy, elegance, and toe-tapping enjoyment.
Tickets, priced at £18, £16 (concessions) and £5 (schoolchildren) available now via the Edinburgh Festival Fringe box office.
